Like running ghosts, with their meagre possessions they can be chased round in circles from destroyed pillar to burning post seeking safe refuges, even to the extent of returning to a home which has already been destroyed. If they are forced to emigrate they may find themselves falling into the clutches of the enemy, into the greedy hands of criminals like law-disdaining people-smugglers, or into a foreign country where they might spend years living in tents in overcrowded refugee camps.
